Topic 5: Synthesis

Assalamualaikum...


Hai!! How are you today?? How's your day? I hope everything is in the good way. So, today, I want to reflect on the second last topic in this subject, which is synthesis. Synthesis is step number 5 in Big 6.

In the other word, synthesis is refer to the combination different piece of information and present the information together.

The purpose of organizing the information are:
  ---> organize information in the right way enable people to understand it easily. 
 ---> to attract people to read the information. 












For me the most important point in this topic is the strategies on how to present the information. After the combination part, we should know how to present the information together. There are 4 ways and it depends on us which strategies that we want to use. 

 Strategy 1: concept

This strategy means we have the main idea and we break it into many point. For example, the main idea is Importance of community service. We can break the idea into the important of video game to community, country and to the person itself. 

Strategy 2: Chronological 

For this strategy, we have to present the information according time, date, process or step. It is used if the information has timeline. 

The example for this strategy is shown in the picture here. The photo represents the generation of bicycle. So, to represent this information, we have to follow from one generation to another. 

Strategy 3: Hierarchical 

Normally, this strategy is applied by student and employee in completing their task. Information is presented in specific order. 

The picture besides is the example of this strategy. We ought to start with the most important to unnecessary or vice versa. To live healthily, we have to eat less fat and oil and followed by the second needed in eating healthy food and so on and so forth.  

Strategy 5: Alphabet

This strategy is quite simple because we present the information according alphabet order (A-Z). 

Usually, this strategy we can find it in index of the book and glossary book. Also, glossary can be appear at the end of textbook, educational magazine and educational book. 

Actually, this is not the last topic in this subject. It has one more topic, evaluation, which it is the last step in Big 6. However, Miss Nisha just want us to reflect until this topic. This topic will be my last post in this blog so before I ended this post, I would like to thank to Miss Nisha for her guide, patience and kindness in teaching us. From the bottom of my heart, honestly, I like the way she teaches us. She explain every single thing clearly and each word that come out from her mouth is very clear. I am glad to have her as my lecturer and for me the lesson is more interesting because of her. She has a dress sense because all the cloth that she wear is suit her the most. She always dress attractively.

Topic 4: Citation

Assalamualaikum.. Hai !.. Hello..!! How are you? I hope you are in the condition. Today I'm going to reflect on the 4th topic in this subject.

On my opinion, this topic is easy but its quite confusing. This is because there are so many rules and different ways to cite the references.

However, this confusion is disappear when Mis Nisya asked us to do reference.

Also, this topic is useful to me because in many assignments that i have done. It required me to provide references, where did i get the information. So, i would like to say that this topic is very helpful for the students.

Topic 3 : Search Tool & Search Strategies

Peace upon to you.. Hello !! This is the third step in Big 6 which location and access information.This topic is about how to locate and access information by using search and the strategies
         

The example of search tool

Search tool is the program or services in internet. Each search tool perform different task. There are 3 types of search tool. 

1st type: Library Catalog

 This system enable library to enter the information. There are  two form of library catalog which are:
 a) book catalog
 b) online catalog. 

From this topic, I got to know the online catalog that is used by AIU library which is OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog). It allows user to find book and other materials by online. 

2nd type: Internet

It has two mechanic: 

a) search engines

   -large database

   -collect  a lot of information

b) subject directories

    - will get few result

    - more accurate

    - limit the search 

3rd type: Online Databases

*It own by specific organization

*For example: PROQUEST, Oxford Journal and     Ebary. 

*AIU used Ebrary and 24x7, where student ca get   information and online newspaper in this        website. 

We can use different kind of search strategies to find the accurate or to limit the information. 

1st type of search strategy is keyword

This search strategy is based on our need. By using keyword strategy, we can use the synonym for the word. 

Truncation And Wildcards. Replace the word with symbol. Wildcards is used in the middle of the word.


Last type of search strategy is phrase searching. It is just a normal searching. We just search whatever we want to. So, i learned many thing from this topic and it relate to my daily life. So i hope i will be able to apply whatever i learned in my life. Bye!! HAVE A NICE DAY :)

Topic 2 : Information Resources

Hai!! Hello !! Anybody there, looking for my post? I hope so. So, without wasting your time, i would like to proceed to the next topic which is the second step in Big 6. Information resource can be defined as things, people or place that helps user to get the information. It can be book, journal, radio, television and website. 

There are two format of information resource which are printed and non-printed. Printed information resource is something that is in the printed form such as booklet, journal, newspaper, guide book, dictionary, and almanac. While online resource is the information that is in internet, television or radio. 

The most crucial part in this topic is the types of information resource. There are 3 types of information resource (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Resources). 

Primary Source's example

The picture represent the example of Primary Source. Primary resource is the original document or the first hand-information. It has written based on the own idea and thought such as poem, birth certificate, letters and journal.  Encyclopedia Secondary Resource is those that describe, change, analyse and written about the primary source. The example of this source is shown in this picture.  The photo demonstrates the example of tertiary source. Tertiary source is the compilation and summation of secondary and primary information.

In addition, i would say that this topic is quite interesting because from this topic, we get to know the type of information that we gain every day. This topic very useful in our daily life. In this topic, Miss Nisha asked us to do presentation on the title that we choose from drawing the lot. My group has to do presentation on Information Resource. Topic 1: Big 6

Hey, Hello!! How do you feel today? I hope your mood in the good condition so that you will enjoy reading my post. In this post I am going to write about the first topic in Information Literacy. There are two section which are Information Literacy Process and Research Process. For the former, it is about the definition, elements and model of Information Literacy while the latter is about how to perform the research.

Information Literacy can be defined as the skill to use, read, write and find information

Information Literacy also known as Information Competency, Information Skill and Knowledge Management. It is useful to everyone and any activities that related to the information is the usage of Information Literacy. For example, you have to do written report, so you need to use information literacy to find the information, to write the information, to evaluate the information and to make a decision.

There are 6 elements of Information Literacy which are Computer Literacy, Media Literacy, Research Literacy, Internet Literacy, Critical Thinking Literacy and Library Literacy.

There are a lot of IL models such as Alberta model and Seven Pillar Model but Miss Nisha just focuses in Big 6 process.  It is because Big 6 is the most easier process to be followed by us, the student. All the IL model used to do the research. 

Also, in this topic i learned how to do research project. Before we start doing research, we need to choose the topic and narrow down the topic. The topic should be narrow down based on target audience, specific area, time and location. It means by narrow down the topic, it will be more specify and we have the clear imagination on what the research is going to be. 

Miss Nisha has given us the exercise regarding this topic. She asked us to choose one topic and specify the topic. In this activity, I got the clear explanation on how to specify the topic which is this skill we use to do written report. It is the one of the assessment that we need to do in the group of 3.

I, me and myself

Welcome to my blog

Hai!! First of all, let me introduce myself. I am Nur Syahirah Bt Muhammad Shukri. I am 19 years old. This is my last semester in foundation studies in Albukhary International University (AIU). For this semester, I am doing 5 subjects which are English 3, Information Literacy, Communication Skill, Curriculum and Leadership and Algebra. After this i will proceed to Undergraduate Program, Insyaallah.

So, this blog is about my reflection and my point of view towards Information Literacy. This blog will represent my respond and thought on this subject regarding what have i learned in class. For the first day in the class, Miss Khairunnisha, the lecturer of this subject briefed clearly on what we are going to learn in this subject. Also, she told us about this subject's assessment. From that, i got the clear explanation on what we are going to learn and the assessment that needed to be done in this subject.
